Description
This is a row of three chest tombs located approximately 3 meters east of the chancel of the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in Badby. The tombs date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are made of ironstone. The northernmost tomb is dated 1696 and features an ironstone base with a large rounded red sandstone top. It has a worn inscription surrounded by a chamfered border on the south side. The middle tomb includes ironstone with decorative cartouches on the south side and west end, and an inscription on the east end commemorating William, the son of Richard and Catherine Goodman, who died in 1717 at the age of 15 weeks. This tomb also has a cherub's head above the inscription, framed by curtains. The southernmost tomb, likely from the mid-18th century, is made of ironstone and has pilastered corners along with a worn inscription.
