Description
The Arch Gate is a lodge gateway built in the late 18th century or early 19th century. It is constructed of red brick with ironstone ashlar facing and sandstone dressings. The gateway features a double hollow-chamfered four-centred Tudor-style arch, complete with a hood mould and trefoil cut spandrels, and the Knightley arms are displayed above. It has a moulded plinth, offset angle buttresses, and a battlemented parapet with a moulded and hollow-chamfered string course below. There are blocked doors between the arches on the left and right, each with four-centred heads.
Originally, the arch was flanked by single-storey one-unit wings that provided accommodation for the lodge gatekeeper. The Arch Gate marks the entrance to Badby Woods, situated along one of the former drives leading to Fawsley Hall.
