Description
The Mere is a house built around 1830, which incorporates a late 17th century to early 18th century dwelling that now serves as the service wing, forming separate dwellings known as Nos. 8 and 10. The exterior features unpainted stucco and a hipped slate roof with rendered internal stacks. The building has a double-depth plan and is two stories tall with a five-window range. The main facade faces a garden to the west and includes a central 20th century canted bay window. There are two bays on either side that project slightly forward, each featuring 20th century 'French' windows on the ground floor to the left and right of the center, along with 20th century windows at the far right and left, all with rendered lintels. The first floor has 16-pane sash windows with rendered heads. Additional architectural details include a plinth, a moulded storey band that runs around all but the central bay, a moulded cornice, and a plain stone-coped parapet on the two outer bays. At the rear left side, there is an L-plan former service wing that is two stories tall with an attic. The gable end of this wing facing the street features a three-light casement window on the first floor with a cambered arched head and a leaded casement window in the attic with a wooden lintel; the gable is stone-coped and has kneelers. The interior has not been inspected.
