Description
A mid-18th century farmhouse with attached barns, constructed from brick and squared coursed lias stone with a plain-tile roof. The farmhouse is arranged in three units, with a two-storey design and an attic. It has a three-window front, featuring casement windows with glazing bars set under shallow brick arches. Later additions include a 19th-century French door on the left side and a 20th-century casement window on the right. A raised brick string course separates the floors, and a dentilled brick cornice crowns the building, with brick gable parapets above. Brick stacks are positioned along the ridge and at the end, with one rising from an externally projecting open fireplace. The rear of the farmhouse is similar, with lean-to extensions and a 19th-century panelled door. A gable on the left side of the rear elevation contains four 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars. Attached to the left of the main front are two-storey brick barns, built at right angles and featuring some chequered brickwork and casement windows with glazing bars. The interior of the farmhouse was not inspected, but a central room and a room to the left are noted to have open fireplaces and chamfered ceiling beams with run-out stops. It is thought the building may incorporate masonry from the nearby Sulby Abbey.
