Description

The Old Packhorse is a house, originally a public house, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is located on the north side of High Street, Yardley Gobion. The building is constructed of coursed squared limestone, with a slate roof and brick end stacks. It has two storeys and an attic, with a 3-window front. The building consists of three rooms arranged in a unit plan. The central entrance features a panelled, part-glazed door with a flat arched lintel, a keyblock, and a hood on brackets. There are three-light casement windows to the ground and first floors on either side, and a similar two-light casement window above the door. All windows have flat arched lintels and keyblocks. Features include a plinth, quoins, a storey band, and chamfered stone eaves. 19th-century brick extensions are present at the rear. The interior includes chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered bressumer, and a stone cellar. The building operated as a public house until 1956.
