Description
Lower Downs Farmhouse is a farmhouse built in the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and features a corrugated iron roof that has replaced the original thatch, along with brick end stacks. The building has a two-unit central-staircase plan, is two storeys tall with an attic, and has a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a part-glazed plank door with a wooden lintel. There are three-light casement windows on the ground and first floors to the left and right, and a two-light casement window above the door, all featuring wooden lintels. The farmhouse has quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. To the left, there is a single-storey brick extension. Inside, the farmhouse includes stop-chamfered spine beams and stop-chamfered joists. The open fireplace has been blocked by a cast-iron range dating from around 1900.
