Description
Rectory Cottage is a house dating from the early to mid-17th century, with medieval origins, and has been altered and extended in the 20th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone and features a plain-tile roof from the 20th century, along with brick stacks at the ends. Originally a hall house, it now has a two-unit plan with a central cross passage. The building is two stories high and has a three-window range. The central door is blocked, with a 20th-century casement window and a wooden lintel above it. To the right, there is a one-light casement, while the ground floor has three-light casements on the left and right, and the first floor has two-light casements, all with wooden lintels. There is a single-storey 20th-century extension at the left end. Inside, the cottage features bar-stop-chamfered spine beams, some old stop-chamfered joists, and two open fireplaces with chamfered bressumers and small double bar stops. The roof includes a pair of arch-braced collar trusses with side-struts to the principal rafters, which may date back to the 14th century.
