Description

Amen Cottage is a late 17th-century cottage with 19th and 20th-century additions and alterations. It is constructed of coursed squared ironstone and limestone, with a plain-tile roof, brick ridge and end stacks. The cottage originally comprised two units, with a further single-unit extension added later. The two-storey, two-window front features a 20th-century glazed door with a timber hood, positioned to the left of the centre. There is a two-light casement window to the right and a one-light casement to the left, both with concrete lintels. Two 20th-century dormer windows are also present. The right gable end has a chamfered plinth and is banded with ironstone. It has a three-light casement window on the ground floor and a two-light window on the first floor, both retaining jambs, lintels and hood moulds of original stone mullion windows. Quoins are visible, and the gable has a stone cope with kneelers. Inside, the cottage features an open fireplace with a cambered moulded bressumer and stop-chamfered spine beams. The building is listed for its group value.
