Description

The market cross, located approximately 10 meters northwest of Cross Farmhouse, dates back to the 14th century, with a finial added in the mid-19th century. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and has a square plan. The base features a square socket with chamfered corners, elevated on five steps. The shaft is finely moulded and lobed, rising from the socket, and is topped with a cross finial that was added in 1850. This market cross may be linked to a grant made in 1387 to William La Zouche, which permitted an annual fair and a market on Tuesdays.
