Description
No. 25 on Seaton Road is likely a former hermitage that has been converted into a house. It probably dates back to the 14th century and underwent alterations and extensions in the 17th and 18th centuries. The building is constructed from squared coursed limestone and lias, topped with a thatched roof. Originally, the layout is unclear, but it was used as two single-unit houses until the 20th century.
The house is two storeys high and features a four-window range of 19th-century casement windows set under wooden lintels. There is a central 20th-century door, also beneath a wooden lintel, which is accompanied by a 20th-century porch. The left two bays are made of squared coursed lias, while the right two bays are limestone. The right-hand corner has a lias section with a 14th-century chamfered plinth. Brick stacks are located at both ends of the building.
On the rear elevation, the two bays on the right project forward. Inside, the wall to the right of the entrance hall contains a 14th-century double chamfered arch with polygonal responds, although the arch is now divided by an inserted first-floor structure. The interior also features remains of open fireplaces and two dogleg staircases.
