Description
Castle Farmhouse and Castle Farm Cottage is a former farmhouse that has been converted into two dwellings. It features a datestone marked R.E.A.D from 1674 and was restored in the 19th century. The building is constructed from squared coursed ironstone and limestone, topped with a Collyweston slate roof, and has an irregular U-shape. It stands two storeys tall with a main front that has a seven-window range, consisting of two- and three-light stone mullion windows. The central four bays contain 17th-century windows, while the others are likely from the 19th century and include hood moulds. The first and sixth bays project forward as gabled cross wings. To the far right of the central bays is a 19th-century panelled door, which is framed by moulded stone and eared architraves, topped with a pulvinated frieze and a moulded cornice. The building features ashlar gable parapets and ashlar stacks with cornices at the ridge, eaves, and ends. The return wall of the right cross wing has two 17th-century two-light windows, while the elevation to the left of the main front has 19th-century windows. The interior has not been inspected.
