Description
Ditchford Bridge, located on Ditchford Road in Irthlingborough, dates back to 1330 and was restored in 1927. The bridge is constructed from squared coursed ironstone and limestone with ashlar dressings. It features six semi-circular double chamfered and stepped arches, with long cutwaters positioned between them. The plain parapet is partly corbelled out and includes pedestrian recesses above the cutwaters. The bridge is approached from both ends by a causeway that has three semi-circular arches. An inscribed tablet on the east elevation commemorates the restoration in 1927, and there is a datestone in the parapet at the rear of the tablet from the same period. The bridge is also scheduled as an ancient monument.
