Description

22 Church Street is a Grade II listed building that includes No. 2 Stamford Lane. Originally two houses, it was combined into one dwelling. The datestone indicates it was built by W.M. Bullimore in 1778, with alterations made in the 20th century. The structure features squared coursed limestone and close studded timber-frame with brick infill, topped with concrete tile roofs.

The building is arranged in an L-shape and has a single storey with an attic, as well as two storeys. No. 22 Church Street has a four-window range with irregularly spaced 20th-century casements; the two on the left are set under original wood lintels. A central eaves dormer has a 19th-century casement window. The two bays to the right showcase close studded timber-frame construction on a limestone plinth, with ends of three tie beams visible at the eaves level. The right gable and corner return are made of limestone, featuring an ashlar gable parapet and kneelers on the left, along with brick stacks at the ridge and end. A 20th-century door in the right gable is set in a reduced opening beneath an old lintel.

No. 2 Stamford Lane, dating from the early 19th century, has a two-window range of 19th-century casements under wood lintels, with a central part-glazed door also beneath a wood lintel. There is a sash window under a wood lintel in the gable end to the right. The interior has not been inspected. The half-timbered range may have served as a workshop, and William Bullimore, the builder, was a carpenter. The building is included for its group value.
