Description

Newton Field Centre is a parish church that dates back to the 14th century, with a 15th-century tower and a chancel added in 1858 by William Slater. It has been converted into a field centre in the 20th century. The building is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with ashlar dressings, featuring an ashlar tower and spire, and Collyweston stone slate roofs with coped gables.

The structure includes a two-stage west tower with diagonal buttresses and a parapet. The bell stage has two-light windows with transoms, four-centred heads, and hood-moulds, while the west side also features a traceried oculus in the lower stage. The spire is topped with a finial and weathervane, dated 1981, and has two tiers of lucarnes.

On the south side of the nave, there is a gabled porch with an arched entrance that has 20th-century double doors, along with two two-light Decorated windows with hood-moulds. A buttress is located at the east end. The two-bay chancel, designed in the Decorated style, has two-light traceried windows, and the east end is buttressed with a three-light Decorated style east window. The north side of the chancel mirrors the south side but includes a flat-roofed boiler house with a chimney situated between the windows.

The north side of the nave features three two-light Decorated windows, with the westernmost window now having a fire escape balcony, and a blocked arched entrance. The parapet is made of brick. Inside, the church has 19th-century roofs, but all fittings have been removed, and the western part of the nave has been divided horizontally to create a gallery for dormitory accommodation.
