Description
Avalon is a pair of houses built between 1860 and 1864 for Lady Overstone, with a 20th-century extension at the rear. The buildings are constructed from regularly coursed lias stone with brick dressings and feature a slate roof. Originally, each house had a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall.
The front facade includes a two-window range of two-light wood-mullioned windows, which have cast-iron lozenge glazing bars and are set under flat brick arches with brick dressings. The first-floor windows are located in half dormers, while the ground floor left has a square bay window. Each house has a gabled porch with 20th-century doors on either side; the porch for No. 14 retains its original arched opening. The eaves overhang, and there is a central brick chimney stack. The gables on both ends have similar windows with a slit at the apex and plain bargeboards. The interiors have not been inspected.
