Description
Number 26A and the attached outbuildings are a communal wash-house and outhouses that have been converted into part of a dwelling. They were built between 1860 and 1864 for Lady Overstone. The structure is made of regularly coursed lias stone with brick dressings and has a slate roof. Originally, it was a single-unit wash-house, consisting of a single storey with a loft. The gable facing the road features a two-window range of 2-light wood mullioned windows, which have cast-iron lozenge glazing bars set under flat brick arches with brick dressings. There is a central 19th-century part-glazed door with a similar surround. Additionally, there is a slit window in the apex and plain bargeboards. The attached outbuildings have 19th-century plank doors with brick dressings and a brick stack at the ridge. The interior has not been inspected. This building is included for its group value.
