Description
This is a house located at 23 High Street, dating from the mid to late 18th century. It is constructed of limestone ashlar and features an artificial slate roof. The building originally had a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic and basement.
The front has a two-window range of plain casements, with wood lintels on the first floor and gauged stone heads with keyblocks on the ground floor. There is a central 20th-century door in a reset opening, which also has a gauged stone head. To the left of this door, there is a small door under a similar stone head that provides access to the entry. The roof features a pair of dormers, and the left gable has an ashlar parapet, while brick and ashlar stacks are located at both ends.
Inside, there is an open fireplace with a segmental brick arch and a keystone, along with a dog-leg stair. The house was likely the domestic wing to No. 27 High Street.
