Description
The Weldon War Memorial is a First World War memorial located on a small green at a road junction in the village centre. The memorial is approximately 5 metres high and consists of a simple limestone obelisk set upon a tapering, square plinth. This plinth sits on a three-stage octagonal base. A narrow gravel path bordered by limestone edging runs around the memorial.
A bronze plaque attached to the plinth bears raised lettering dedicated to the men of Weldon who gave their lives for their country in the war of 1914-1919. Further bronze plaques, in the same style, are attached to the remaining sides of the plinth, recording the names of those who fell, listed by year. Plaques in the same style at the base of the obelisk commemorate those who fell during the Second World War, 1939-1945. The memorial stands within a small garden enclosed by a modern post and chain fence, which is not part of the listed structure.
