Description

A pair of cottages, Numbers 24 and 25 (Miller’s Cottage), dates 1900 to 1901. Designed by William Huckvale for Charles Rothschild. The cottages are built of coursed rubble stone with a hipped thatch roof, featuring stone ridge and end stacks with ashlar linked double and triple flues. Constructed in a Vernacular Revival style, the roof descends to first floor level in the centre and at the ends. The façade has a three-window arrangement, with three-light, leaded stone mullioned windows on each floor, flanking a central dormer with a paired two-light window. The ground floor features similar four-light windows with hood moulds on either side of a recessed central section containing further windows and doors. They form part of the notable group of buildings on the model estate of Ashton, commissioned by Charles Rothschild.
