Description
This is a row of three cottages, built between 1900 and 1901 by William Huckvale for Charles Rothschild. The cottages are constructed of coursed squared stone with a hipped thatch roof, and feature stone ridge and end stacks. The stacks include ashlar linked quadruple and triple flues. Designed in a Vernacular Revival style, the cottages have two storeys and a five-window range at the first floor. These windows are 3-light leaded stone mullioned casements, with two 2-light windows positioned slightly lower between them. The ground floor features three similar 4-light windows, each with a hood mould, and to the right of each window is a plank door with a flat moulded wooden hood supported on shaped brackets. Further windows are found at the ends and the rear, where there are six doors. The cottages are part of the significant group of buildings forming the model estate of Ashton, built for Charles Rothschild.
