Description

A pair of cottages dated 1900-1901, designed by William Huckvale for Charles Rothschild. They are built of coursed rubble stone with a hipped thatch roof, featuring stone ridge and end stacks with ashlar-linked double and triple flues. The design is in the Vernacular Revival style. The roof slopes down to first-floor level in the centre and at the ends. The cottages present as a three-window front, with three-light mullioned windows with leaded glass on either side of a central dormer containing a paired two-light window. The ground floor features a four-light mullioned window with a hoodmould on each side of a recessed central section with further windows and doors. These cottages form part of the significant group of model estate buildings created by Charles Rothschild at Ashton.
