Description

A pair of cottages, Numbers 8 and 9 (Honeybee and Willow), were built between 1900 and 1901 by William Huckvale for Charles Rothschild. They are constructed of coursed rubble stone with a hipped thatch roof, featuring a stone ridge and end stacks. The stacks have ashlar linked double and triple flues. The style is Vernacular Revival. The roof slopes down to first-floor level in the centre and at the ends. The cottages present a three-window façade, with three-light leaded stone mullioned windows on each side of a central dormer containing a paired two-light window. The ground floor has a four-light mullioned window with a hoodmould on either side of a recessed central section, which contains additional windows and doors. The cottages form part of the important group of buildings on the model estate of Ashton, developed by Charles Rothschild.
