Description
Brimstone is a cottage built between 1900 and 1901 by William Huckvale for Charles Rothschild. It is constructed from coursed rubblestone and features a thatched roof with stone end stacks and moulded ashlar flues, showcasing a Vernacular Revival style. The building has a T-plan with a rear wing and stands two storeys high. On the first floor, there is a two-window range of leaded two-light stone mullioned windows above similar three-light windows. The central entrance consists of a plank door with a flat moulded wooden hood supported by shaped brackets. The rear of the cottage includes similar windows, doors, and a lean-to extension. Brimstone is part of a significant group of model estate buildings in Ashton, constructed by Charles Rothschild.
