Description

A pair of cottages, numbers 11 and 12, built between 1900 and 1901 by William Huckvale for Charles Rothschild. The cottages are constructed from coursed rubble stone with a hipped thatch roof, featuring stone ridge and end stacks with ashlar linked double and triple flues. They are designed in a Vernacular Revival style. The roof is stepped down to first floor level in the centre and at each end. The building presents a three-window facade, with three-light leaded stone mullioned windows on each floor. A central dormer window contains a paired two-light window. The ground floor has four-light stone mullioned windows with a hoodmould on either side of a recessed section containing further windows and doors. The cottages form part of the notable group of estate buildings at Ashton, commissioned by Charles Rothschild.
