Description
Cross Way Hand Lodge is a farmhouse located on Bulwick Road in Southwick, dating from the mid to late 18th century and restored in the 20th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and features a double-depth plan. It has three storeys and a five-window range on the ground and first floors, showcasing tall casements with plain ashlar surrounds and keyblocks. The second floor has a three-window range with similar square windows.
The central entrance has a part-glazed door framed by moulded stone architraves, a plain frieze, and a triangular pediment above. The lodge includes a chamfered plinth, ashlar gable parapets with kneelers, and ashlar stacks at both ends. A sundial is positioned between the windows on the second floor. The side gables are marked by projecting chimney breasts. The rear elevation features a catslide roof and a four-light stone mullion window with unmoulded mullions. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is noted to have chamfered cross beams and a panelled corner cupboard.
