Description

Two houses, located at 56 and 57 Upper Benefield. They were likely built in the late 18th or early 19th century. The houses are constructed of squared coursed limestone with roofs of Collyweston slate. Originally designed with one or two-unit plans, they now present a three-window facade of 19th-century style casement windows, set beneath wooden lintels. Some windows have been renewed. A plank door is located to the left of centre, and a 20th-century part-glazed door is to the right of centre, both protected by wooden lintels. A single-light window is situated to the left of centre. Ashlar stacks are visible at each end of the building. The interior of number 57 features a simple late 18th or early 19th century staircase with a stick balustrade to the landing.
