Description

The structure consists of walls, gatepiers, gates, and an attached orangery, likely built in the early 18th century for the Duchess of Norfolk and Sir John Germain, with some restoration in the 19th century. The walls are made of squared coursed limestone, while the gatepiers are crafted from ashlar stone. The wrought-iron gates feature leaf decorations and scroll panelled standards, and are set between rusticated ashlar gatepiers with columns and moulded cornices. A square-headed gateway in the west wall is flanked by decorated pilasters. Iron railings at the south end of the west wall are mounted on a retaining wall.

The orangery, attached to the south end of the east wall, was originally a single-storey structure with a four-window range. It has a central arch-headed doorway with a rusticated surround, tall casement windows with glazing bars, and moulded stone architraves. The roof features an ashlar parapet and gabled design with ashlar gable parapets. The interior has been partially converted into 20th-century changing rooms but retains original roof trusses. A wall to the south of the orangery includes an attached rusticated ashlar gatepier. These walls enclose three sides of the gardens to the north and northeast of Drayton House, which are included in the Historic England Register of Parks and Gardens at grade I.
