Description
Mill House and Mill Cottage are two dwellings located on Yarwell Mill Road, built between 1730 and 1731 for the Earl of Westmorland, with a 19th-century extension. The building features squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and a Collyweston slate roof, arranged in an L-shape. It stands two storeys tall with an attic. The main front has a three-window range of large, three-light, cross casements on the first floor, and two canted bay windows with slated roofs on the ground floor. The first-floor windows are set under gauged stone heads. A central four-panel, part-glazed door is also under a similar head and has a rectangular fanlight with glazing bars. There are two hipped roof dormers, ashlar gable parapets, and rebuilt stone stacks at the ends. A 19th-century extension is located at the intersection of the wing at the rear. Although the interior was not inspected, it is noted to have ovolo-moulded cross beams, a reset 18th-century stair with turned balusters, and some early 19th-century plasterwork. The house was constructed by John Dimbleby, a mason, and Edward Orper, a carpenter.
