Description
Number 5 and the attached gateway are part of an inn that has been converted into three dwellings. The building dates from the late 17th century and early 18th century and is constructed of regularly coursed limestone, topped with thatch and Collyweston slate roofs. The structure forms an L-shape and stands two storeys tall.
The elevation facing Robbs Lane features a four-window range with irregularly spaced casements beneath wooden lintels. There are two sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor to the left, one of which has a gauged stone head. The central door, dating from the 20th century, is also under a gauged stone head. The building has ashlar stacks with moulded cornices at both the ridge and the end, and there is evidence of re-fenestration on the ground floor far left.
On the Main Road elevation, there is a gable to the right with two tall 20th-century casements, which have glazing bars and are also under wooden lintels. A central casement with glazing bars is located on the first floor. The thatch range to the right has a lower eaves level, while the left range features a Collyweston roof with an ashlar stack that has a moulded cornice at the end. The rear elevation is similar and includes plank and panel doors.
Attached to the left of Number 5 is a wooden gate arch with an ogee head. The interior of Number 1 has not been inspected but is noted to have remnants of open fireplaces. The interior of Number 3 contains spine beams and some plank doors, and a room to the left of the entrance features a 17th-century panelled overmantle, likely reset. This building was formerly known as the George Inn.
