Description
Springfields Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century, with some 19th-century alterations. It is constructed of squared coursed and part banded ironstone and limestone, topped with slate and concrete tile roofs. The building originally had a two-unit plan and stands two storeys high with an attic. The front features a four-window range of 19th-century casements with glazing bars under wooden lintels on the first floor, and stone surrounds on the ground floor. To the right of the centre, there is a 19th-century canted wooden bay with a stone base, which shows signs of rebuilt stonework around it. The central entrance is a panelled door with a plain stone surround. The gable ends have ashlar parapets and stone stacks. An outbuilding attached to the right is now part of the house and includes a long central stone stack. The left gable features two-light stone mullion windows on the first floor and attic, although the attic window is now blocked. The interior has not been inspected but is noted to have cruck roof construction.
