Description

This is a row of five houses located on Main Street, Sywell. Built between 1860 and 1864 for Lady Overstone, the houses are constructed of regular coursed lias stone with ashlar dressings and a slate roof. Originally designed with two-unit plans, they now form a 5-window range. The windows are wood-mullioned, featuring 2-, 3-, and 4-light arrangements with cast-iron lozenge glazing bars, set within flat-arched ashlar surrounds. The second and fourth bays project forward with gables. Each house has a canted stone bay window at ground floor, with matching glazing and a slit window at the apex. Nos. 10 and 12 have 20th-century doors set within original corner porches, while No. 11 has a 20th-century porch on the right side. The eaves overhang, and brick and stone stacks are visible at the ridge. Nos. 9 and 13 feature gabled porches integrated into the gable wall, with a slit window in each apex. The interiors have not been inspected.
