Description
Grendon House is a farmhouse that was likely remodeled in the early 19th century, originally dating from the 18th century. It is constructed from regularly coursed limestone and topped with a slate roof, featuring a double-depth plan. The building stands two storeys high and has an entrance front with a three-window range. The central entrance consists of a six-panel door with an arched fanlight, surrounded by a moulded wood frame and a bracketed hood with an open pediment. The windows are sash style with glazing bars and have rendered heads, with the windows on the second floor reducing in height. The roof is hipped, with brick stacks located at the ridge.
The garden front to the right mirrors the entrance front, also featuring a central six-panel door and two blocked windows. The rear of the garden front has some casement windows beneath wood lintels and a six-panel door with glazed toplights. There is a two-storey extension from the 19th century to the right. Some ground floor windows on the garden front still show remnants of 18th-century wood lintels. Inside, the house has an early 19th-century staircase with a stick balustrade.
