Description

The Stags Head Public House dates to the early 18th century and is located on the High Street in Earls Barton. The building is constructed from regular coursed lias stone, now partially stuccoed, and has a plain-tile roof. Originally planned as a two-unit structure, it is two storeys high with an attic. The front facade has a four-window arrangement; the ground-floor casements feature glazing bars, and the first-floor window on the left has partially leaded lights. A central, late 19th-century part-glazed double door is framed by a bolection-moulded wooden surround with panelled reveals. The building features ashlar gable parapets, kneelers, and brick and stone stacks at the ends. Later 18th and 19th-century extensions are present at the rear. The interior remains unexamined. A wall and gatepier, dating from the late 18th or early 19th century, are constructed from brick with an ashlar coping and a panelled ashlar gatepier. The wall is attached to the right side of the public house and is approximately 15 metres north-east of The Manor House. This grouping demonstrates group value.
