Description
The kiln, located at OS 9472 9966, is a Grade II listed structure believed to have been used for iron ore smelting. Constructed in the early 20th century, it features a circular plan with a large mass concrete base and a brick upper stage. The kiln has eight openings with semi-circular heads at the base of the brickwork, and there are remains of concrete coping at the top of the brickwork. The interior has not been inspected but is partially lined with firebricks. It is said to have been built during the First World War and forms a group with the kiln at OS 9473 9966 and the kiln bases at OS 9476 9966 and OS 9474 4966.
