Description

The kiln, located at OS 9473 9966, is a Grade II listed structure believed to have been used for iron ore smelting. It dates from the early 20th century and features a circular plan. The kiln has a large mass concrete base topped with a brick upper stage. There are eight openings with semi-circular heads at the base of the brickwork. It is said to have been constructed during the First World War. This kiln is part of a group that includes another kiln at OS 9472 9966 and kiln bases at OS 9474 9966 and OS 9476 9966.
