Description
A group of three chest tombs, including the tomb of Samuel Lee, is located approximately 10 metres south of the Church of St Mary in Geddington. These tombs date from the early to mid-18th century and are constructed from limestone ashlar. Each tomb chest features a moulded plinth and a cambered lid. The tomb of Samuel Lee is distinguished by fielded panels and bears the inscription: "Here lieth interred the body of/Mr. SAMUEL LEE/who died March the 3rd, 1708. He was/Ranger of Geddington Chase to His Grace the/Duke of Montague and bequeathed to the Post/of Geddington the profits of a Piece of/land lying in Cranford St. John." The two similar tomb chests to the west have recessed panels, but any inscriptions on them are no longer legible.
