Description
Windmill Cottage is a former windmill that was converted into a house around 1818 and altered in the mid-19th century by E.F. Law for William Mackworth-Dolben. The building is constructed of squared coursed ironstone with ashlar dressings and features a plain-tile roof from the 20th century. It has a circular plan and stands four stories tall. The ground floor has single, two-, and three-light stone-mullion windows on the first and second floors, while the fourth stage has single-light gabled windows at the front and rear. The building is topped with a corbelled and castellated parapet, likely designed by Law. To the left, there is a single-storey range with a one-window layout and ashlar gable parapets. Above the ground floor window, there is a circular inscribed tablet that was once a millstone, featuring the letters 'REST'. Additional inscribed tablets include 'WHI and MD' and 'Ex Mill Cottage'. There is a 20th-century extension to the right. The interior has not been inspected.
