Description
Hampton Cell is an almshouse located on Church Hill in Finedon, dating from 1742, as indicated by the datestone. The building is constructed from regularly coursed ironstone and features a pantile roof with a two-unit plan and two storeys. It has a two-window range consisting of 19th and 20th century casements set beneath wooden lintels. To the right, there is a 19th century door under a stone lintel, which is topped by a gabled hood. The building also has an ashlar gable parapet and a stone stack at one end. Above the door, there is an inscription that reads "Hampton Cell Anna Dom 1742." Attached to the left side are single storey outhouses. The almshouse was endowed by Miss Deborah Hampton.
