Description

Mulso Cottage and the attached wall are located on Church Street in Finedon. The house dates from the mid-17th century and 18th century and is constructed of squared coursed ironstone with a plain-tile roof. It originally had a two-unit plan and stands two storeys tall with an attic, featuring a three-window range. The central 20th-century door is topped by a three-light wood-mullion window. The other windows are six-light casements with wood mullions and transoms, all equipped with moulded wood lintels and leaded lights, some of which contain crown glass. The building has ashlar gable parapets and two stone stacks at the ridge, with a coat of arms positioned above the door.

On the left gable elevation, there is a four-light wood-mullion window on the first floor and six-light casements on the ground and attic levels, similar to the front elevations. The rear of the house features an 18th-century wing with some casements that have glazing bars and moulded wood lintels. The interior has not been inspected, but it is noted to have panelled window reveals in the ground floor front rooms.

The attached wall to the right of the main front, which encloses two sides of the front garden, is likely from the 18th century and is made of ironstone with ashlar coping. It has an arch head recess with a keystone next to the house and a stepped parapet above, as well as an arch head opening in the centre of the section that abuts Church Street.
