Description

The Gatehouse is a former gatehouse and parish hall, now a house, built in 1870. It is likely designed by E.F. Law for William Mackworth-Dolben. The building is constructed of squared coursed ironstone and features a fishscale tile roof. Originally, it probably had a one-unit hall plan and consists of one storey with an attic. The facade includes a 2-window range of 7-light stone mullion windows. A 19th-century plank door with a moulded stone surround is present, along with a moulded stone cornice and a flat-topped 20th-century roof dormer. The gable ends are adorned with ashlar parapets and stone stacks. An inscription along the cornice reads, "Bear ye one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ." The right gable features a datestone and a moulded stone roundel with the initials "V.R.", along with arch-headed niches above and four similar roundels below. There is a 20th-century extension at the rear. The interior has not been inspected.
