Description
Turtle Bridge is a bridge that may date back to the 14th century and was widened in 1793, with a parapet added in the 19th or 20th century. It is constructed of ashlar and red brick and features three arches, with stone bases and visible brick arches. The cutwaters rise to create niches in the brick and stone coped brick parapet. The bridge carries a bridleway over the River Welland and is located about 1½ miles southwest of the Church of St. Peter in Barrowden, off the road to Seaton. The Victoria County History of Rutland, Volume II, page 173, references a bridge with a similar name in Barrowden from the 13th century.
