Description
The gatearch, located approximately 20 metres east of King John House, dates back to the 17th century. It is constructed from limestone ashlar and brick and has a square plan with two storeys. The structure features two semi-circular archways that have plain springers and keyblocks. The upper storey is blank and includes a moulded string course. On the south face of the upper storey, there is a central cartouche, small flanking shields, and a 20th-century plaque. The upper storey is internally part brick-lined and lacks any floor or roof structures. This gatearch originally served as the gateway to the former Clopton Hall.
