Description
23 and 24 Main Street are two houses dating from 1831, associated with the Stafford-O'Brien family of Blatherwyke Hall. They are built of squared coursed limestone and feature a Welsh slate roof. Originally, each house likely had a two-unit plan forming an L-shaped range. The buildings are single storey with an attic, and the main front has three bays, with the outer bays slightly projecting.
The central door, dating from the 20th century, has a four-centred arch-head and Gothic-style glazing bars. To the left of the door is a small square-headed window, while the flanking bays contain casement windows with four-centred arch-heads and Gothic glazing bars. All door and window openings are framed with ashlar surrounds.
Three eaves dormers feature casement windows with glazing bars and shallow gabled roofs. The eaves overhang and the flanking bays have hipped roofs, with an ashlar stack at the ridge. The left elevation mirrors the right, with a similar two-window range and a central door. There is also a leaded casement window under the eaves on the far left and a 20th-century flat-roofed eaves dormer. The interior has not been inspected.
