Description

The Rectory is a building with origins dating back to the 17th century, featuring datestones from 1827 and 1868, associated with Reverend J.T. Tryon. It has been altered in the mid-20th century. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and has a plain tile roof from the 20th century. The original layout is unclear, but it now has an irregular L-shape and consists of two storeys with an attic.

The front elevation has a four-window range of unhorned sash windows with glazing bars, set under stone lintels with keyblocks. The first-floor windows have been reduced in height. To the left of the centre is a French window that matches the style of the other windows. The roof features a pair of arch-headed eaves dormers at the centre, ashlar quoins, and a mansard design with ashlar gable parapets and end stacks that have moulded cornices. The datestone from 1827 is located at the centre, below the eaves.

To the rear left of the garden front, there is a tall staircase window with glazing bars. The four-window range to the left, dating from around 1868, is in a similar style to the garden front but has a gabled roof, with a datestone to the right. The entrance front to the right of the garden front was remodelled in the mid-20th century when a 17th-century range was removed, all done in a similar style. Evidence of 17th-century masonry can be seen at the first-floor level on the rear wall of the garden front.

Inside, the entrance hall features an early 19th-century staircase with a stick balustrade around an open well. The rooms facing the garden have reeded door surrounds and panelled reveals.
