Description

The Mulso Arms Public House, originally a farmhouse, is likely from the early 19th century, with datestones indicating alterations in 1868 for William Mackworth-Dolben. It features regular coursed ironstone and a 20th-century plain tile roof. The building is arranged in a three-unit plan over two storeys and has a three-window range with 2- and 3-light 19th-century stone mullion windows, some of which have leaded lights. The central door, from the 20th century, is framed by a 19th-century moulded stone surround with a four-centred head. To the left of the entrance is a small projecting gable with a finial, and other first-floor windows also have small gables above. The two-window range on the right has first-floor casements with wood lintels and a lower eaves line. The gable parapets and kneelers are made of ashlar, with a brick stack at the ridge and a stone stack at the end. The left gable bears the inscription "Elm Grange" with an 1868 datestone above it, while other gables feature the initials W.H. and M.D. A central 18th-century wing is located at the rear, along with 18th-century barns attached to either side of the rear elevation, one of which facing Wellingborough Road has a datestone from 1756. Inside, there are some chamfered beams and an open fireplace.
