Description
The Yews is a house that has been converted into an old people's home. It was built in the mid-18th century and has undergone later alterations. The exterior is made of coursed limestone rubble with ironstone bands, topped with slate roofs that feature coped gables and 19th-century yellow brick ridge and end stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a four-window range. A central 19th-century white-painted porch adds to its character. The ground floor features 20th-century sash windows, which have rendered surrounds and keystones, while the first-floor windows have gauged stone heads. At the rear, there is a parallel wing with twin gables facing the street, linked to create a parapet. The gable end of this rear wing has three sash windows on the ground floor (narrow, wide, narrow) and a single sash window above, all with lintels that have flush keystones. Although the interior has not been inspected, it is believed to contain a Victorian Gothic carved fireplace and panelling that were added in the 1920s.
