Description
No. 44 High Street is a house, probably dating from the late 18th century, with later alterations. It is constructed of coursed ironstone rubble and features a 20th-century interlocking concrete tile roof, with coped gables and brick end stacks. The building is two storeys high and has a three-window range. There is a limestone band between the storeys and a 19th or 20th-century eaves cornice. The central entrance has a panelled door with an overlight, set within a 20th-century portico, and is flanked by tripartite sash windows that have ironstone lintels and painted keystones. The first floor has similar windows, with a central window that is narrower but longer, all featuring similar heads. A doorway from Denton's Farmhouse, a listed mid-18th-century farmhouse that has since been demolished, is believed to have been re-erected at the rear of the house. The interior has not been inspected.
