Description

The walled garden, located approximately 17 meters east of Manor House Farmhouse, likely dates to the early to mid-19th century.

The walls are constructed from roughly dressed, randomly coursed limestone and topped with moulded terracotta coping. The gate piers are made of ashlar, supporting a timber and iron gate. Pathways within the garden are formed from brick and sandstone slabs.

The garden has a roughly rectangular shape, oriented on an east-west axis. The main entrance is located in the west wall, aligned with the farmhouse entrance across the road. This garden gate features panelling on the lower half and railings with arched bracing above, likely replacing earlier gates of a similar style. Flanking the gateway are four coursed ashlar piers, each with central recessed panels and moulded, pyramidal capping blocks, which also mark the north-west and south-west corners of the garden. The west wall is topped with large flat rectangular York stone copings that have a broached finish.

The walls on the north, east, and south sides are topped with decorative saddle profiled coping bricks laid in soldier course. The north and south walls stand approximately 2.75 meters high and ramp down at their western ends to about 1.65 meters to match the height of the west wall. The south wall includes a gateway to the neighboring property, River View, which features a round brick arch and wrought iron gate. The east wall is arced, reaching about 1.65 meters at its center and ramping down at both ends to align with the height of the adjoining walls. The north-east and south-east corners are accented with ashlar quoins.

Inside the walled garden, the ground level is approximately 1 meter higher than the surrounding land outside the wall. The interior features a partially submerged axial path made of herringboned brick and sandstone flags.
