Description
Stone Cottage and attached wall is a house dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. It is built of squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. The original layout was a two-unit plan, and the building is a single storey with an attic. The front has a three-window range on the ground floor, consisting of restored leaded casements set under wooden lintels. The central window, which was originally a doorway, now has a wooden casement. There are two hipped eaves dormers, both with leaded casements. Brick stacks are located at the ridge and at the ends of the building. The gable ends have 20th-century casement windows, and the entrance is at the rear. There is a single-storey extension added to the rear in the 19th century. The wall attached to the rear features a reset headstone inscribed with the name John Desbrow from 1719, which is said to have been used as a hearth stone and has an arch-head niche that was reset from a fireplace inside the building. The Desbrow family is recorded as having held the dwelling in 1778. Inside, there is a small open fireplace with a bressumer.
