Description
The building is a forge, now disused, located approximately 20 meters west of Cross Farmhouse. It dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and incorporates medieval masonry. The structure is made of squared coursed limestone and features a Collyweston slate roof. It has a U-shaped plan and is a single storey.
The center of the forge has a one-window range with a casement opening that includes a wooden shutter, all under a wooden lintel. The gabled roof is topped with a reset medieval octagonal chimney stack, which has a square base at one end. This stack features alternate gabled openings with one or two lights and a spirelet above, adorned with four small gabled openings and a crocketted finial. At the other end, there is a 20th-century brick stack.
To the left, a bay breaks forward with a half-hipped roof, and there is a cart entrance in the return wall. The bay to the right also breaks forward but has a hipped roof, with a plank door located on the left under a wooden lintel. The interior has not been inspected.
